Trade Officials Conclude WTO Training on Reference Centers

A two day training conducted by the World Trade Organization (WTO) was concluded yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) Conference room.

It is understood the armed thugs targeted the boat used by MPs of the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC), who were staying at the resort at the eve of the prime ministers election.

Manasseh Sogavare will lead a new coalition group, consisting of those MPs at the Honiara Hotel, the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Peoples Alliance Party (PAP). It now seems likely that Sogavare will lead a new government, but with the slimmest of majority.
“Already four political parties have formed a coalition, and they have made it public, and have complied and submitted necessary documentations to the Commission,” he said.

The Governor General Sir Frank Ofagioro Kabui has set December 9 for the election of the Prime Minister by virtue of section 33(1) of the Constitution.
“We are aware that during the campaign period some candidates told voters that they would be able to find out who the voted for. This is simply not the case,” Mr Haununu said.

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) has confirmed that the recent National General Elections recorded the highest ever voter turnout, with 89.93% of all registered voters casting their ballot.
“We have done everything according to the Integrity Act, beginning with the 7 days time-frame for the formation of a coalition group after election results are declared,” a source close to the coalition told Solomon Times.

SIPRA to Lead Coalition Government

The Solomon Islands Party for Rural Advancement (SIPRA) is expected to lead the newly formed government, with an election date for the PM likely to be announced by the Governor General this week.
