Police Organised Community Engagement Event

Members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Australian Federal Police (AFP), RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) and the Solomons’ International Assistance Force (SIAF) conducted a joint community engagement event recently at Kukum.
The USD13 million project has supported various activities that aim to boost COVID-19 preparedness and response efforts, and to strengthen health systems for future outbreaks to improve the quality and accessibility of health care services in the country.

World Bank on Implementation Support Mission to MHMS

A World Bank team is currently in Honiara on an implementation support mission to provide technical support to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
In the new Education Act 2023, there is a provision that allows for the use of local vernacular, Pijin, English, or sign language either individually or in combination, tailored to the students' needs.

Education Takes Direction to Support Early Learners with Language

Dr. Franco Rodie, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD), has highlighted the ministry’s direction to support early learners using language as medium of instruction.
The new centre will function as a tributary or feeder for the Lata Fishery Centre and Honiara Markets and also a source of fish market for communities in and around Reef Islands who wants to buy fish.

New Fishery Home for Reef Islands

The Reef Islands in Temotu Province now boast a newly completed permanent fishery center at Nyialo village on Lomlom Island.
Once completed, the community will be able to access high quality and specialised health care at Tulagi, instead of being referred to Honiara which usually involves travel by outboard motor, posing risks for sick patients.

Tulagi Hospital Renovations Kick Off with Groundbreaking

Renovation work at Tulagi Hospital has kicked off with a ground breaking at the hospital compound, by the care taker Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Culwick Togamana, the care taker Premier for Central Province Mr Polycarp Vakino Galaigu and the Super Construction Director, Mr Michael Leong.
This first incinerator, located at the back of Good Samaritan Hospital, in Tetere, Central Guadalcanal is worth around SBD1.3 million and should be completed and ready for handover next week.

Medical Waste Management Efforts Enhanced

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services welcomes the first of 4 medical waste incinerators funded by the World Bank’s Covid 19 Emergency Response Project through its Project Management Unit (PMU).
