USAID Supports UN World Food Programme to COVID-19 in the Pacific

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes a contribution of US$500,000 from the United States Government in support of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Pacific.
Dr Manu Tupou-Roosen, Director General, said: “The pandemic is undoubtedly a once-in-a-generation challenge and no less so for the Pacific’s tuna fisheries."

The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) has hosted a one-day online discussion on the impacts of Climate Change on Offshore Fisheries.
“Whilst this incident occurred in Papua New Guinea, gender-based violence is a common issue throughout Oceania faced by many athletes.”

Athletes’ Commission Condemns Attack on PNG Athlete

The ONOC Athletes’ Commission has strongly condemned the brutal attack on Papua New Guinea (PNG) athlete, Debbie Kaore last week.
“As a member of the Pacific Islands Forum, Australia is doing its part to operationalise the Pacific Humanitarian Pathway including through the implementation of protocols for freight and passengers that minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission,” said Foreign Minister Senator the Hon Marise Payne.

Working Together to Combat Covid-19 in the Pacific

The Australian Government is working in partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum to contribute to its initiative to establish a Pacific Humanitarian Pathway amid global supply chain disruptions.
WFP will work in close coordination with the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat and its members to support the Pacific Humanitarian Pathway for COVID-19.

Australia Supports WFP’s Humanitarian Air Services Across the Pacific to Aid Covid-19 Response

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes a contribution of AUD$3 million (US$1.96 million) from the Government of Australia to kickstart humanitarian air operations in the Pacific.
