Gizo Hospital Fire Calls for Asbestos Ban

The discovery of previously unknown asbestos after a hospital fire in Solomon Islands has sparked a call for a Pacific-wide ban of the toxic substance.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands Kenichi Kimiya launched the construction phase of the Kukum Highway Project after the recent conclusion of the Preparatory phase.

A major infrastructure improvement project in Solomon Islands financed by the Government of Japan is projected to improve economic activities by reducing the current traffic conditions while improving safety for road users in the capital, Honiara.
“I expect to receive from you (the Steering Committee) realistic deliverables that we should act upon in our collective fight against corruption and from my end, I will try my very best to ensure that the activities you have identified to implement will be adequately resourced,” Mr Sogavare said.

Sogavare Pledges More Support for Anti-Corruption Strategy

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has pledged extra support to adequately resource the Steering Committee which was mandated to oversee the country’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).
