In his nationwide New Year address, Sir Nathaniel said that 2008 marks the country's 30th political independence anniversary.
Sir Nathaniel said that this year should be a time for Solomon Islanders to evaluate what has been achieved the past 30 years, and focus on the way forward.
The Governor General added that 2008 is a time Solomon Islanders undertake necessary and serious stock-take of their personal and family leadership achievements and failures.
Sir Nathaniel stressed on the need for everyone to become committed in order to enhance people's welfare and well-being in economic development, spiritual growth and cultural unification in a multicultural society.
"Our successive governments, religious and traditional leaders have not been able to satisfy our people with their desired pace of economic and social development," Governor General Sir Nathaniel stated.
