A public forum was today organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

A public forum was today organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). "Today's event is organized to look at the issue of human rights in relation to international treaties, national laws and realities on the ground" stated Stella Delaiverata, the National Human Rights Officer for OHCHR.

Speakers at the public forum included the Director of the Public Prosecution Ken Averre, Regional Director of the Commonwealth Youth Programme Afu Billy, Katherine Gilbert of UNICEF, legal rights trainer for Live and Learn Carol Pitisopa and Ruth Maetala a consultant specializing in treaty reporting.

"A very informative forum" stated Lawrence Makini, a councilor for the Honiara Town council. "We just need to always remember the local context when discussing such issues"

Stella Delaiverata stated that other public forums are also organized for the coming months.
