A statement published on the Solomon Islands Government portal on 28 September 2026 says the Kunkwaikwai customary landholding group of Ward 30 in Central Kwara'ae, Malaita Province, has passed what it called a milestone in the recording of customary land.
According to the statement, Kunkwaikwai is the first tribal group in Central Kwara'ae to take up the customary land recording programme formally.
The statement said the step came after the Central Land Recording Office team met group members at Malawai Village, where the community was briefed on how the recording work is carried out.
A three-month public notice forms the second stage of the process, the statement said, giving the Kunkwaikwai tribe time to assemble and check its records, and allowing people who consider themselves part of the group to attend the next convened meeting.
The notice is also meant to support openness, transparency and fair decisions during the recording work, the statement said, adding that copies have been put up in public spots so residents can reach the information and keep up with what is happening.
Public notice locations listed in the statement are Sita Village, Malawai Village, Radefasu Community and the Malaita Provincial Notice Board, with the notice posted at Radefasu and Malawai Villages.
The statement asked residents to take note and to join the process where it applies to them, and said anyone claiming a customary interest in Kunkwaikwai, or a membership link to it, should come forward at the next convened meeting so their information can be weighed in the recording work.
