The Solomon Islands Truth and Reconciliation Commission is planning to hold a third thematic public hearing for ex-combatants in either the Western or Choiseul Province soon.

The Public hearings are one of the major programmes TRC carries out to achieve its mandate under the TRC Act of 2008.

Earlier in 2011, TRC held two public hearings for the ex-combatants in Buma, Malaita Province and most recently in Honiara. The programme is to encourage ex-combatants to talk about their experience during the tension period.

The TRC Office says so far the public hearings for former combatants has enhanced reconciliation to take place between the different parties involved in the ethnic crisis.

The office says it is a positive step for those who took part directly or indirectly during the ethnic tension.

In 2010, six Public Hearings were held in different Provinces of the Solomon Islands but were mainly for victims of the Ethnic Crisis.
