Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says the Government has not lost sight of its commitment at our borders.
The Prime Minister in his nation-wide address today said despite the focus now on the two cases here in Honiara, arrangements for the seventh deployment to the Western Border Operation has commenced last week Friday.
The Prime Minister said the deployment will include 82 of our local police officers.
“There have since been no reports or sightings of any illegal crossings at our border with PNG including the Malaita Outer Islands. However, our front liners including police and other government agencies are continuing to provide Redline Patrols and community awareness to our communities at the border,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said back in Honiara, since the announcement of our first case on Saturday 3rd October 2020, the police have also activated their preparedness and response plan.
The Prime Minister said police officers have since been deployed to provide security and escort at the quarantine stations to assist our camp management team.
“Police have also undergone daily intelligence reporting and daily patrol around the quarantine stations,” he said.
