Police in Tulagi have arrested a 56-year-old male, suspected of murdering and hiding the body of the victim inside a well.
The deceased was found inside the water well, located just a few meters away from the busy main road. Residents in the area also use the well for bathing and washing, and were the ones that discovered the body.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Island Province (CIP) Superintendent Soakai said both the suspect and the deceased victim lived in an area known locally as smoking area in Tulagi.
PPC Soakai said the suspect was transported to Honiara and has been remanded at the Rove Correctional Facility and will appear again in Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 14th October 2022.
He says keeping him at the correctional facilities will help police further their investigation into the matter, while at the same time keeping the suspect from harm.
Superintendent Soakai said the suspect was formally charged for murder Contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code.
PPC Soakai said that the CIP investigators are working tirelessly to ensure that all individuals that are involved in the incident are identified and arrested.
Police initial reports alleged the deceased left his home for market on Saturday and did not return - his body was discovered inside the well two days later.
