Women from all denominations and organizations in Honiara are looking forward for a Women's Convention to be held in Honiara this weekend; from the 14th to 16th of November.

The Women's Convention is organized by the Solomon Islands Christian Association (SICA) and is the first of its kind. SICA is planning to have this as an annual event.

In an interview with the National Coordinator Women's Desk for SICA, Ms. Ethel Suri, said the aim of the convention is to bring women together as part of the SICA to have discussions as that of a forum and to come together as sisters.

After the convention, women in Honiara will form four zones for weekly prayer meetings for peace and reconciliation in the country.

Ms. Suri said that the theme "Women of Solomon Islands Arise and Shine for your light has come;" is aimed at bringing women from all denominations together believing that as a Christian country, everyone must rise up and rebuild their Christian lives.

She added that this year is a special year for Solomon Islands as it is declared as the year of the Bible, further stating that "we need to encourage each other in our spiritual commitments and the programme will be established as an annual event, with plans to organize similar activities in all the provinces in the country in years to come."

She said the event will include a parade on Saturday and the programme will take place at the Kukum SSEC Church compound. It will be officially opened by the Permanent Secretary for Women, Youth and Children Affairs, Mrs. Ethel Sigimanu.
