Excitement is building ahead of planned celebrations later this week to mark the 25th anniversary of Waimapuru's establishment as a national secondary school.

The second Government owned National Secondary school in the country to King George Sixth secondary school, Waimapuru in Makira Ulawa province was officially opened in 1984.

More than 400 students will engage in a series of activities starting this Wednesday to mark the occasion.
Planned activities include a parade of prominent past and present students of Waimapuru.

Prime Minister Doctor Derek Sikua and other Government officials will join the celebrations on Friday to witness a prize giving ceremony.

Doctor Sikua was the Deputy Principal when Waimapuru became a national secondary school in 1984.
