Mr Vo Viet Cuong has been formally appointed as Viet Nam's Honorary Consul to Solomon Islands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade said.
The appointment ceremony was held on Monday, 13 October 2026, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon Rick Houenipwela, congratulated Mr Cuong and noted the trust placed in him by the Government of Viet Nam to represent its interests in Solomon Islands.
Houenipwela said the appointment showed both countries were committed to deeper cooperation in trade, investment, development and people-to-people links. He said Mr Cuong's long presence in the Honiara community, his experience as an entrepreneur and his role in setting up the Solomon Islands Vietnamese Association would help strengthen engagement between the two sides.
"His established networks across government, the private sector and the wider community, together with his understanding of both Vietnamese and Solomon Islands contexts, positions him well to serve as a bridge between our two countries and peoples," the Minister said.
According to the ministry, the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1996, and the new post in Honiara will give Vietnamese nationals in Solomon Islands an accessible point of contact.
The ministry said Solomon Islands sees room to expand economic partnerships with Viet Nam, listing agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, renewable energy, trade facilitation and investment, training and capacity building, as well as cultural exchanges, as priority areas for further cooperation. It said it looked forward to working with Mr Cuong and his office.
