Two teams are closer to realizing their dreams of playing in the Honiara DJ League after grabbing first and second spots in a preseason qualifying league last Friday.

Southern United and East A won their final matches of the qualifying league last Friday. The teams are set for a playoff with the DJ League Division 2's bottom two teams from last year's competition for two available spots in the division this year.

Southern United qualified for the playoff after edging USP FC 2-1 in a close match while East A defeated Kelai Warriors from the Lord Howe settlement 6-4 in a high scoring encounter.

Southern United is a team made up of players from the Southern Region of Malaita while East A is a development team of Uncles FC made up of players mostly based in the Fishing Village.

The two teams will play against the 2008 DJ League teams, Police and Isa Mala in a playoff competition at a date yet to be confirmed by the Honiara Football Association (HFA).

Meanwhile, the HFA's Siosi Dioko told Express Sports that another playoff for spots in the DJ League's premier Division was planned for this week.

He said the playoff would be a competition between Las, Junior Flamingo, Laugu and Hana.

Las and Junior Flamingo are the top two teams from last year's DJ League Division 1 while Laugu and Hana were placed at the bottom of last year's Premier Division.

The teams will vie for two places in this year's DJ League's Premier Division.
