A group of women from Honiara are currently in Gizo to deliver clothing bales to tsunami victims in the Western Solomons.

Solomon Times was informed that the group is being led by Lady Alice Waena, Madam Doris Sikua and the wife of the British High Commissioner to Solomon Islands.

Speaking from Gizo, a reliable source said the mission also includes wives of the government Ministers and backbenchers.

Lady Waena in a hand over ceremony held at the Gizo Wharf yesterday officially handed 182 bales of clothes to the Premier of Western Province, Hon. Alex Lokopio.

The donation of bales is reported to be from the Charity Women's Group in Taiwan with the assistance of the Taiwanese government to deliver them last year.

Bales are specifically for the people who suffered last year's April tsunami that hit Western and Choiseul provinces.

Lady Waena acknowledged all stakeholders in their own efforts to see that the items had reached the victims safely.

She also acknowledged the PPF for free delivery of the items which arrived on RAMSI's LC Tinae in Gizo this morning.

Meanwhile, Premier Lokopio said that the donations made are very important and shows the continuous support and commitments of other nations towards assisting the Solomon Islands and its people in times of disaster.

He also thanked the people and government of Taiwan for the continuous support, in particular for their gifts that had safely reached the Western Solomons shores.

Solomon Times understands the mission returns to Honiara today.
