The Ministry of Health and Medical Services Solomon Islands National AIDS Council has come on board as partners with SIFF and Our Telekom to advance the message about AIDS.
SINAC coordinator, John Gela, says that they are happy to be part of the soccer tournament, as they will use the opportunity to advance AIDS messages to the participating teams and general public.A number of activities have been lined up for the duration of championship and they include;
. Visit team camps to distribute information
. Setting up two information booths at Lawson Tama and SIFF Academy
. Organising small games during halftime with give-away prizes for winners
. Provision of T-shirts to ball boys/ girls, referees, team officials and sports medicine team
Gela says the World AIDS day will be celebrated on December 1 and it will coincide with the delivery of speech by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
With the 2007 World Aids Day theme "Leadership Stop AIDS! Keep the Promise", Gela says the message is loud and clear and everyone should take heed.
The SINAC coordinator encourages all the residents of Honiara the visitors to make use of the information booths at both Lawson Tama and SIFF Academy to pick AIDS information leaflets and other materials.
He stresses that to fight against HIV is everybody's business.
