Solomon Islands weightlifting sensation, Wendy Hale, finishes her first day with 3 silver medals in the snatch and the clean and jerk categories.

In other news, Airton Andrioli's men overcame a physical Tongan side to win 4-0 in their second match after thrashing the American Samoans 12-1. Solomon Islands now lead their pool as they head towards the business end of the tournament.

The Solomon Islands netball team lost their first game to Cook Islands 35-51 at the Apia Park Netball Courts in the third match of day one. Solomon Islands now sit in third place with Fiji securing the top spot to Cook Islands after thrashing Norfolk Islands 93-9.

The Mens Beach Volleyball went down to tournament favorites Fiji after putting up a gutsy performance. The Women's Beach Volleyball team also lost their opening match to Vanuatu.

At the end of Day one Solomon Islands is ranked 10th in the overall medal tally, ahead of host Samoa, for the 2007 SPG.
