History will be made for the Solomon Islands, as athletes with an intellectual impairment prepare to represent the country for the first time at the Inaugural Virtus Oceania Asia Games 2022 in Brisbane, Australia on 12 November 2022.
18 athletes with intellectual impairment have been selected out of 26, and have since undergone IQ tests with Australian Psychologist Peter Haninine at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport - SINIS.
According to the Solomon Islands National Paralympic Committee (SINPC), the final para squad list will be released soon, set to compete in Para-athletics, Para-swimming, Para-table tennis and Para-sailing.
SINIS continue to provide support through the High-Performance Portfolio 3 Performance Team as training continues under sports-specific programs including Wellbeing & Lifestyle Performance service.
The 2022 Virtus OA Games will be staged in Brisbane from 5-11 November. Around 1000 participants from over 25 nations across the Asia and the Pacific region are expected to participate in the inaugural Regional Games.
OA Games is a multi-sport event including international sanctioning and classification for athletics, swimming, table tennis, leading to the Vichy 2023 Global Games and the summer Paralympic Paris 2024.
