With the approval of the Papua New Guinea and New Zealand Governments, Solomon Airlines on Monday operated a cargo only flight between Auckland and Port Moresby after being awarded the contract to do so.

The airline’s Airbus A320 international aircraft currently based in Brisbane operated the private cargo charter flight in accordance with strict Covid-19 health and safety requirements.

“No passengers were carried as the aircraft ferried only cargo,” said Solomon Airlines Manager Commercial Colin Sigimanu.

“Solomon Airlines pilots only were onboard, operating the flight adhering to stringent guidelines and they did not interact with ground handlers in Auckland or
Port Moresby,” he said.

Upon completion of the flight, the Airbus A320 aircraft returned to Brisbane where
it was disinfected and sanitised.

Solomon Airlines cargo flights and a series of repatriation flights operated by the national carrier fully comply with the COVID-19 regulations and requirements of the relevant countries.
