The National Government of Solomon Islands formally appreciates and acknowledge the more than SBD 58 Million dollars (USD7m) in grant assistance from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards the 2023 Pacific Games preparations.

The Prime Minister, Honourable Manasseh Damukana Sogavare, who is also the Minister responsible for the delivery of the PG2023 games, formally conveyed the appreciation of the government and people of Solomon Islands to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Change Envoy, His Excellency, Adel Al-jubeir in Riyadh.

“The assistance directly supports a National Government priority policy, the preparations and hosting of the 2023 Pacific Games. It is also the single largest unifying event for the nation and a uniting factor for Pacific Island countries to come together as one people.

The funds will be used entirely for identified preparation aspects of the Games. It’s timely transfer is appreciated.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Change envoy, HE Adel Al-jubeir confirms, all banking formalities for the transfer are now complete.

“The more than SBD 58 Million was transferred a few days ago from the Saudi Government to the Central Bank of Solomon Islands.”

Moving forward, the Solomon Islands Government will be setting up a diplomatic mission in the Gulf region to further strengthen and deepen its relationship with the countries in the region and step up its cooperation with Saudi Arabia and the region.
