Avaiki has won its second game for the season, this time against Marist.
"Two games in a row with bonus points is a good start for any team" The Avaiki coach stated. "We have a lot of respect for the Marist boys, they held as to a 5 all draw last season so we did not take them lightly today"The Marist team had a lot of young players, most of them playing in only their second season. "These boys are young, I hope they will continue to learn from their mistakes and improve their game as the season progresses" stated the Marist coach.
Despite the scorching heat at the Panatina oval the match was played with intensity and at pace. Marist was forced to play most of the game in their own territory. Avaiki took advantage of some unforced errors to score three quick tries through their fast paced wings. The score remained 15 - 0 at half time.
Marist came back in the second half firing, an excellent through ball saw one of their big boys crash through the Avaiki defense, "a well deserved try" a Marist fan said.
Avaiki replied with one quick try from a well placed kick from Keith Namona. The Avaiki wings out run their opposite numbers to score. Two late tries were also scored from a counter attack from Avaiki. "Marist always looks dangerous going forward but they need to be able to defend against counter attacks" The Marist coach said. "It would be great for team moral if we could win some early games"
