The Taiwanese Embassy has released $1.2 million dollars for various government projects and three projects in the Western Province.

The funds are for IT equipment for the Caucus Office, the Policy and Evaluation Unit, the Government Communications Unit, and a hilux vehicle.

A press statement from the Taiwanese Embassy says IT office equipment to be purchased include computers, printers, data projector, UPS, photocopier, digital cameras, mobile phones, software, network and Internet equipment.

In the Western Province, the funds will be for two home stay projects - one in Noro and one in the Lokuru community.

According to the press statement the third project in Western Province aims to help patients who need medical treatment in Helena Goldie Hospital.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Danny Phillip says the government urgently needs to equip the Caucus Office, the Policy and Evaluation Unit, the Government Communications Unit with IT equipment in order to effectively carry out its work.

Prime Minister Phillip further stated that while the projects in the Western Province seem trivial, the funding will enhance the livelihood of the people concerned.

Taiwanese Ambassador George Chan had handed over the funds to Prime Minister Danny Phillip yesterday.
