The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Malaita Province is investigating the death of a 4-year-old female child at Fo’ondo Village in North Malaita on 31 May 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “My officers at Malu’u are currently investigating a sad incident which resulted in the death of a 4-year-old female child at Fo’ondo Village in North Malaita on 31 May 2019.”

“It is alleged the child was asleep when the house caught fire, while the mother of the child was away. And it is further alleged some villagers saw the fire but were unable to put it off to save the child,” says PPC Sisimia.

He says, “On behalf of all the police officers working in Malaita Province I wish to share our condolences to the family and the mother of the little girl for the tragic loss of their child.”

“I appeal to the people at Fo’ondo village to assist the police with our investigation to determine the cause of the fire, and appeal to relatives of the deceased to remain calm and not to involve in any acts of violence,” says PPC Sisimia.
