Prime Minister Hon. Danny Philip has welcomed the Republic China's (Taiwan) new Ambassador to Solomon Islands, H.E Roy Wu, on Tuesday.

Speaking at a reception hosted by Ambassador Roy Wu and his wife in Honiara, Prime Minister Philip said he is confident that Ambassador Wu will further enhance the relationship between Solomon Islands and Taiwan.

"Solomon Islands value its relations and partnership with Taiwan and we will work closely with you to bring this relationship to new and greater heights," Prime Minister Philip said.

The Prime Minister said the government and people of Solomon Islands applaud Taiwan's support and assistance towards various sectors including agriculture, health, education, and rural development.

Prime Minister Philip said that since the formation of the National Coalition for Rural Advancement (NCRA) government in 2010, one of the key government objectives is to conduct its foreign relations in a mature and pragmatic manner.

"This key objective underscores the "Look North" policy which captures possible gains from engaging actively with the Asia region including Taiwan through trade and economic links," said Prime Minister Philip.

"Our relationship will face many challenges in the years ahead with various complex issues but this will not threaten our determination and resolve to work together. Solomon Islands on its part will continue to render support to Taiwan's cause for greater participation in the international arena."
