Jay Makana, a former mini-games Gold medalist, is currently touring Choiseul province as part of the Sol2023 sports Ambassador's program.

The program is part of the Games Organizing Committee (GOC) Community engagement initiative - an opportunity to promote and inspire young aspiring athletes.

The presence of Jay Makana added an extra dimension to the tour, as he shared his own story of overcoming challenges to achieve greatness in his field. His participation helped to underscore the importance of role models in inspiring young people to pursue their dreams.

"The tour was a great success, and we are proud of our sol2023 ambassadors for their dedication and commitment to promoting SOL2023 pacific games, sports and a healthy lifestyle," a statement reads. 

Jay Makana was a 1981 Gold medalist in boxing at the Mini South Pacific Games, hosted in Solomon Islands. In 2005 he also became an international referee and judge, a first for Solomon Islands.

He is currently the Head of Boxing Technical for Solomon islands Amature Boxing Association.
