Solomon Islands Soccer Ambassador, Gideon Omokirio, got a chance of a lifetime when he was picked to play for an Oceania selected team against the 1998 French World-cup winning team.

The "jubilee match", played out in Noumea New Caledonia, marked the 10th anniversary of the French victory. The game brought together the French 98 World Cup winning members like Zinedine Zidane, Christian Karembeu, Robert Pires and Laurent Blanc. As reported by nzherald.co.nz, the match was won 8-2 by Les Blues with Pires scoring four and Zidane two.

Although 20,000 fans packed the Numa-Daly Nouméa stadium to watch their homegrown star, Christian Karembeu, and his star studded team mates grace the soccer pitch, for Gideon Omokirio, the lone Solomon Islander on the pitch, the night will always be remembered - as this was the night he danced and dribbled with the Stars.
