A police officer is being charged with raping a 10-year-old girl.
The 24-year-old police officer was arrested yesterday and formally charged with rape last night.The officer was taken into custody on Sunday (18 May 2008) evening after allegedly sexually abusing the 10-year-old girl at White River Estate whilst off-duty.
Officers from the Sexual Assault Unit and Professional Standards and Internal Investigations interviewed the 24-year-old at Central Station last night where he was formally charged with rape.
He appeared in the Honiara Magistrates Court this morning. Police opposed bail and the man was remanded in custody. He is expected to reappear in court on 3 June 2008.
