The Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, does not have plans for a new 'guest worker system' for Pacific Islanders.

This comes following a recent request from Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr. Derek Sikua for the Australian government to reconsider creating a seasonal work permit programme for Pacific Island nations.

But the Rudd government has reportedly turned down the call to use Pacific Islanders as guest workers to ease labour shortages in Australia.

This stand was reportedly reaffirmed by the Rudd government on what Pacific Island nations have "long wanted" for the Australian government to offer.
