New Zealand won their eighth OFC U-16 Women's Championship title with a 4-0 victory over New Caledonia in the final at the National Stadium in Honiara on 19 September.

The result keeps New Zealand's 100 per cent winning record at the tournament since it began in 2010. They scored 19 goals without reply across their five games in Solomon Islands, according to Oceania Football Confederation.

Captain Bonnie Rice scored twice for the Young Football Ferns and won the player of the match award, before Kodi Wilson and Louisa Egley-Turner added goals off the bench in the closing stages.

For the first 45 minutes the organisation and physicality of the New Caledonian defence blunted the New Zealand attack, led by central defender and captain Selapaie Sameke, and Golden Glove winner Bernadette Nyikeine.

The Young Football Ferns failed to create a clear-cut chance in the first half and had to hold their breath at the other end when goalkeeper Philippa Bromley made a fingertip save to deny Gisele Hace from a direct free kick.

That changed after the break. Rice got the breakthrough in the 48th minute, cutting in off the left flank and beating Nyikeine at her near post with a right-footed strike from the edge of the box.

Rice's second goal midway through the second period made sure of the title, the captain picking out the bottom-left corner again from the top of the box.

New Zealand's bench added two late goals, Wilson lifting an effort over the head of the goalkeeper and Egley-Turner relying on a heavy deflection off Hace with practically the last kick of the match.

Both sides will now prepare for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2027 in Morocco, where New Caledonia will make their debut alongside New Zealand as OFC's representatives.

Earlier in the day, Fiji came from behind to finish third with a 6-1 win over Papua New Guinea. The Mini Kulas scored five second-half goals, including a double from Temalesi Masi.

Glenda Danny gave PNG the lead in the 38th minute with a strike from the edge of the box, before Esther Vunivi equalised before half-time. Masi completed the turnaround three minutes after the restart, and Adi Reva scored her sixth goal of the championship.

Masi added Fiji's fourth in the 70th minute, before substitutes Titilia Latui and Varanisese Naiqarau finished the scoring. PNG end the tournament in fourth place.
