A new General Manager for the Solomon Islands Water Authority, SIWA, will be announced this week.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy Luma Darcy, who is supervising the office of SIWA general manager, told SIBC New that, "the water authority is going through a reform exercise, with the support of the government and development partners."

Mr Darcy says they expect things to turn around when the new general manager takes over.

He says despite numerous criticisms leveled at the authority and its management, SIWA is an organization that looks after water - an important commodity.

Mr Darcy was responding to the editorial of the Solomon Star Newspaper yesterday on the illegal tampering with SIWA pipelines and meters by members of the public, due to frustration over the poor quality of service.

The newspaper says the management of SIWA is in disarray, and government should step in to save the authority.
