Solomon Brewery Limited has indicated once again that it aims to support the Marist Rugby Club as it kick starts its activities for 2010.

Marist Rugby Club's new president Frank Wickham confirmed that preliminary meetings with Solbrew management have been positive with a clear showing of support for some of the club's plans for 2010.

"Solbrew has once again expressed their support for Marist Rugby Club and are very enthusiastic about the club's plans for 2010" Mr Wickham said, " We as a club are very, very appreciative of that support and will strive to achieve the best possible results we can."

Amongst the Club's many goals this year which includes boosting its training program, is the hosting of the annual Marist Solbrew Sevens competition.

The tournament originally scheduled for the Easter weekend has been deferred to a later date in the year to allow more preparation time for the Club and teams planning to take part.

Mr Wickham said "both the Marist Rugby Club and Solbrew Limited believe that the Marist Solbrew Sevens should be highly competitive, an opportunity for clubs to showcase their talents at their peak fitness and be one of the highlights of the rugby season. "

"Opportunities will be sought to invite overseas clubs to participate and the club will be collaborating with the Honiara Rugby Union Association and the Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation on this initiative," he said.

Mr Wickham on behalf of the Marist Rugby Club and new executive again expressed his thanks to Solbrew Limited for supporting rugby in Solomon Islands.

"For any sporting club in the Solomon Islands to have the support of a company like Solbrew, is a privilege and we look forward to an even strengthening the partnership in the future" he said

In the meantime the new date and further details of the proposed competition will be confirmed by the Marist Rugby Club's executive in due course.
