Solomon Islands will see local athletes competing in regional and international competitions this year.

The Athletics Sports Development Officer, Martin Rara, told Solomon Times that four international competitions and six regional competitions have been confirmed.

"The upcoming international events are World Cross Country Championship, World Youth Championship, World Championship in Athletics and World Half Marathon."

Local athletes will also be competing in regional competitions including the Arafua Games, Oceania Half Marathon, Oceania Cross Country, Melanesian Championship, Oceania Grand Prix and the Pacific Games.

For competitions within the country, seven domestic competitions will take place this year: the National Easter Road Race, Our Telekom school games, World Athletics Day, Our Telekom Primary School Games, Our Telekom Provincial School Games, National Athletics Championship and the Half Marathon.

Mr. Rara said that all the upcoming competitions are all fixed with dates already allocated for each event.

Solomon Times was informed that seven athletes, three male and four female, have been recommended to attend the Regional Competitions through the Oceania Athletic Committee.

Mr. Rara said the recommendation list is however subject to change.
