The hospital was opened on the 24th of November, 1967, by Sir Robert Foster (KCMG).

Kilu'ufi Programme Officer, Mr. Rockson Siliota, said that preparations for the anniversary are progressing well, with the current focus mainly on beautifying the surroundings of the hospital.

Hospital Services Committee Chairman, Doctor Mickey Olangi, and hospital staff initiated the idea of organizing the 40th anniversary celebration.

He said the celebration, which is not going to be a big one, will be made "to suit our patients, stuff and our few invited guests, just to mark the 40th anniversary."

"This celebration is the first since the last one held in 1982, 25 years ago, and it is good to remember the hospital anniversary," Mr. Siliota adds.

Appeal letters were issued to various business houses for donations towards the upcoming anniversary, and "we have received donations from few businesses, Malaita members, Parliament members and Our Telekom".

"We are very happy with the positive response so far, and look forward to more contribution to go towards the occasion," he said.
