The Westfield Junior Matildas becomes the first Australian national football team to visit the Solomon Islands since 2005.
They arrived at the Henderson International Aiport in Honiara this afternoon ahead of the international friendly match against our U-19 women's team on Thursday at the Lawson Tama stadium.
The young Australian female footballers are on tour in the Pacific as part of the ‘Pacific Step-Up’ and the Australian Pacific Sports Linkages Program in partnership with the Australian Government and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade.
The Junior Matildas have started their tour on a high, defeating both Tonga and Vanuatu enroute to the Solomon Islands. The Westfield Junior Matildas are also using their tour of the Pacific as preparation for the 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship, which will be held in Thailand in September.
