The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) is fully prepared for the Guadalcanal Tandai Ward By-Election scheduled for today, Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

This was confirmed by Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer Jasper Highwood Anisi, who shared that all preparations for the by-election are on schedule, with the training of polling officials completed yesterday.

“I can confirm that polling officials for the Tandai By-election are ready to perform their duties and support SIEC throughout the election process,” said Anisi.

Twelve polling stations have been designated for the election, with sixty polling officials trained to manage the process today.

Anisi also noted that observers from various institutions within the country will monitor the election, adding, “Election observation is a valuable tool for enhancing the quality of elections. Observers help build public trust in the integrity of our electoral processes.”

Anisi encouraged all eligible voters in Tandai Ward to participate actively by casting their votes and contributing to the democratic process by electing their Provincial Assembly representative.

He confirmed that five candidates have been nominated for the by-election: Mr. Universe Panda, Mr. Mato Mui, Mr. Desmond Iro, Mr. Henry Maenu, and Ms. Melinda Kii.

Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with all election-day procedures strictly enforced to ensure a smooth voting experience.

The seat became vacant following the passing of its previous representative earlier this year.
