The Guadalcanal provincial Government has vowed to support all House of Chiefs within Guadalcanal province.

Guadalcanal Premier, Mr. Francis Sade said this is to make sure effective support is given to the House of Chiefs.

The Tandai House of Chiefs recently held an inauguration ceremony at Tamboko for the newly elected Paramount Chief, Mr. Francis Perogolo.

Premier Sade said his government remains committed to assist the national government in traditional governance issues.

"The Guadalcanal executive government will support whatever the national government will implement in regard to traditional governance’’.

He said together with local government structures and its traditional leaders “they must identify economic development opportunities to ensure jobs are created and that they empower the rural communities.”

The premier points out that as community leaders they also need to speak out against social problems such as crime, teenage pregnancy as well as alcohol and drug abuse.

“This also includes speaking out against the abuse and the violence of women and children. With alcohol flowing freely inside the community, we need to uphold rules that are in place so that our communities can enjoy a safe environment’’, Premier Sade said.

He added that chiefs should be at the forefront of monitoring and evaluating the quality of service delivery to their communities and alert the government of issues and make inputs on how these services could be better delivered.

The Inauguration ceremony attracted hundreds of tribal community members on Guadalcanal.
