The Solomon Islands Government is confident to deliver the 2023 Pacific Games as scheduled regardless of the challenges generated by COVID-19 in the country.
This followed detailed presentations on work progress towards the Games to the Prime Minister and Caucus Wednesday this week by the National Hosting Authority (NHA) with its respective Committees.
Committees that made presentations on their work progresses to Caucus included the Games Organising Committee (GOC), the Games Facilities Committee (GFC) and the PG23 Cabinet Sub Committee.
While enjoying the National Government’s ongoing commitment and support towards the Games over the last two years, the NHA is keen to collaborate further with the Government Service Integrated Committee (GSIC) to firm up preparations and the actual hosting of the event.
The Pacific Games 2023 remains a key priority project for the Government and requires a whole of Government Approach to mobilize resources and manpower towards the Games.
Key Government services needed are in the areas of Police and National Security, Health, Education, Legislation supporting Corporate Sponsorship, Immigration, Customs, Protocol, Transportation and others to be identified.
The Games is expected to require thousands of volunteers and Solomon Islanders to work prior to and during the Games.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare on behalf of Caucus acknowledged the ongoing preparatory works and assured the NHA that the National Government will devote a whole of Government approach to support the Games.
This will include mobilizing necessary government resources to ensure the Games are successfully delivered.
It is anticipated that the Games will bring substantial economic benefits for the country while at the same time serve as platform to enhance national unity and nation building.
