The Governor General, Sir Nathaniel Waena, yesterday visited the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE).

Sir Waena, during his visit, encouraged college authorities to initiate changes that are necessary to enhance the training of the country's human resources in order to build a prosperous Solomon Islands.

Sir Nathaniel said the responsibility of training the future manpower of Solomon Islands rests entirely on the shoulders of college authorities and staff to ensure a future of hope for the country.

"We must not depend on others to build this nation through education for us," he said. "We must shoulder that responsibility to produce our own manpower requirements to enhance the economic wellbeing of all citizens of this nation."

Sir Nathaniel encouraged the SICHE Council to continue to enlighten the future of Solomon Islands through the various existing academic institutions at the college.

Sir Nathaniel was accompanied by a high level delegation from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources including the Education Minister, Derick Sikua, his Permanent Secretary, Barnabas Anga, and Under Secretary, Donald Malasa.
