The MP for South Choiseul Robertson Galokale has been ousted on bribery charges - an election petition was lodged by the former Premier of Choiseul Province, and a candidate in the 2019 national general elections, Jackson Kiloe.

Judge Rex Faukona found Mr Galokale guilty of 12 of the 19 bribery allegations against him.

The bribery charges relate to events that occured between October 2018 and January 2019, where his agents gave money, solar and household items amounting to SBD$2,750.

Three bribery allegations were withdrawn prior to the trial and four were struck off after the trial.

Robertson Galokale received the lowest percentage of votes by any winning candidate during the 2019 elections, having received only 19 percent of the total votes casted in the South Choiseul constituency.

Galokale is now the third MP to have lost his seat through an election petition, he was the Leader of the Parliamentary Independent Group.
