Free basic education is one priority area for the current Sikua-led government.

Speaking at the official opening of the 5th annual meet yesterday, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Maelyn Kuve said the issue is the most challenging for the ministry.

"One challenging issue for the ministry is the Free Basic Education that is to begin in 2009," said Mrs. Kuve.

PS Kuve stated that there is a big need for donors to fund the Free Basic Education and help the ministry.

"This is an opportunity to appeal to donors and funding agencies who are here with us to give some consideration to our proposal on the Free Basic Education," said Mrs. Kuve.

She added that the two days workshop is an avenue for discussions on the challenges that takes place to pave the way forward in the remaining months.
