Foreign Minister Patteson Oti met with Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Prime Minister of Fiji, in New York.

The two leaders discussed international, regional, sub- regional and bilateral issues.

Minister took the opportunity of briefing Fiji's Prime Minister on Solomon Islands - RAMSI relations, in particular reaction of RAMSI to some of the action taken by the Government of Solomon Islands in strengthening its partnership with RAMSI.

The two leaders also spoke on matters relating to the forthcoming Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.

The two Melanesian countries reiterated their call for closer engagement by the international community to address the underlying causes of the problems in the Pacific Islands countries and move beyond governance issues to address the root causes of instability in the Pacific region.
