FUNAFUTI, Tuvalu- Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele has held a bilaterial meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Lassina Zerbo at the margins of the 50th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting in Tuvalu.

The two leaders used the opportunity to discuss on the relationship between CTBTO and Solomon Islands.

Hon. Manele coveyed his gratitude for the CTBTO outreach to Solomon Islands.

Hon. Manele further thanked the CTBTO for their offer of assistance in Capacity Building for access and use of seismic, Hydro acoustic, Infrasound & radionuclides for earthquake monitoring ,tsunami and radiation dispersion.

Weather prediction, ocean temperatures analysis and migration patterns of marine mammals were among the potential applications of CTBTO International Monitoring Systems data.

“Such assistance will trully benefit the Solomon Islands in the areas of earthquake and tsunami momitoring and marine animals,” Hon. Manele stated.

Solomon Islands is one of the 186 member state that signed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
