Some of Solomon Islands football legends and veterans will be part of the historic visit by the FIFA President Gianni Infantino today, Monday 14th August 2023.
Part of the FIFA President’s delegation is FIFA World Cup 1998 winner and former Inter Milian forward Youri Djorkaeff - he will be a key member of the FIFA President’s 11 who will play against the SIFF President’s 11 consisting of local football veterans such as Batram Suri, George Lui, Stanley Waita and others.
The former national players have shown that the passion is still alive - turning up and wanting to be part of a landmark occasion in the country’s football history.
These veterans introduced the early versions of how football was played in the country and developed throughout the years - and have watched it through to become modernized.
This is also an opportunity for them to meet the FIFA President and resemble memories by sharing with the public what football has brought to our shores.
They will witness the match between the FIFA President XI taking on SIFF President XI today at the Lawson Tama stadium.
