The National Traffic Department (NTD) officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) were confronted by drunk drivers during a traffic operation conducted over the weekend in Honiara.

RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said, “Most of the vehicle drivers arrested were under the influence of liquor. Although officers’ encountered confrontation from drunk drivers during the operation, the NTD have arrested nine suspects for drunk driving on the road.”

Commissioner Mangau said, “A total of 70 vehicles had been checked during the operation. Five were arrested for driving unlicensed motor vehicles while a suspect has been arrested for unlicensed driving. The suspects were charged and will appear before the court on a later date.”

Mr Mangau says, “As part of the preparation for the Pacific Games 2023 police will be doing regular checks and targets mainly on tracking down drivers under influence of liquor that are likely to cause accidents to other road users.”

“I just like to inform the road users that police will check for unlicensed vehicles, unlicensed drivers, and other Traffic related offences on the roads as part of the preparation for PG23,” says RSIPF Commissioner.
