Our Telekom had committed SBD $14, 480 to D.Fenders Basketball Club following the club's appeal for sponsorship from the company.
D.Fenders is a newly formed Women's Basketball Club in Honiara. The club's representatives formally received the sponsorship from Our Telekom Assistant Manager at the Telekom Haus, Point Cruz on Wednesday.The sponsorship will go towards the D.Fenders proposed Easter Basketball Tournament to be held at the Multi-purpose Hall, Honiara on the 5th and 12th 2009. The tournament will feature both men's and women's divisions.
Mr. Ryan Burns, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Ocean Zone Development Officer, thanked Our Telekom for the generous assistance towards D.Fenders.
"D.Fenders Basketball Club has shown great initiative in getting the Telekom Easter Basketball Tournament up and running. I'm really looking forward to it as it is going to be one of the best basketball tournament ever held in Solomon Islands, I encourage everyone to participate." Ryan Added.
In a statement Our Telekom said that it was pleased to support D.Fenders as it strives to maintain and improve basketball as a emerging sport in the country. The company sees D.Fenders initiative as a worthwhile cause that will help develop basketball sport in the country and attract more young adults to join the sport.
