A new program will see local police officers work with Australian Federal Police, A-F-P, in Canberra.

The month-long attachment is an A-F-P offer to have two local officers for a month at a time over in Canberra , working with their counterparts.

While in Canberra, the local officers will do patrols, community policing and other aspects of policing, along side their Australian A-F-P counterparts there.

Solomon Islands Acting Police Commissioner Peter Marshall said the new initiative starts September this year.

A local female officer who leaves the country September said this arrangement is a huge boost for the Solomon Islands policing.

"We will be exposed to advanced services and this will help us better our services for our people here in the Solomons," she said.
