A two weeks deadline is in place for the Malaita Solomon Games local organizing committee to report on possible dates for the national event.

The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands traveled to Auki to assess preparations on grounds and have given the local committee until June 13th to confirm dates for the games.

"We were in Auki last week and it does not look possible for the games to take place on its scheduled dates, June 23rd to July 5th," the NOCSI Vice President, Golden Kiloko said.

He told a press conference that with the current progress in preparing venues for the event, there is sure to be delays in the games.

"The local organizing committee will have until 13th of this month to meet with its stakeholders and give us their feedback on scheduled dates," Mr. Kiloko said.

Meanwhile, Malaita Provincial Assembly Sports Minister, Hon Jimmy Manawai has reaffirmed the committee's commitment to set a new date before the two weeks deadline.

"We are committed in hosting the national event therefore, we will meet with our national and provincial stakeholders and will confirm the final dates before the two weeks ends."

The minister explained that the delay of preparation on facilities is a result of delay on funding from the national government.

Solomon Times understands that the national government had released SBD$700,000 to the Solomon Games local organizing committee in Auki.
