The Solomon Islands Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia H.E Mr. Salana Kalu had presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Indonesia H.E Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono this week at the “Instana Merdeka Palace” in Jakarta.

Ambassador Kalu together with Ambassador’s of Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Peoples Republic of China, and Republic of Korea to the Republic of Indonesia presented their credentials before the Indonesian President in a closed ceremony witnessed by the Foreign Minister, Senior Government Officials, Presidential Guards, the Presidential Protocol Officers and the Protocol Officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

After the official ceremony, Ambassador Kalu together with the other four Ambassadors was given the opportunity to converse privately with the Indonesian President.

Ambassador Kalu is the first Solomon Islands Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia. He will head the newly established Solomon Islands Embassy in Jakarta that has been in operation since the 21st of May 2014. The Embassy will be officially opened by the Prime Minister Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo on the 5th of August 2014.

Before taking up his new task, Ambassador Kalu is a career diplomat serving formerly as Chief of Protocol, the Assistant Secretary for Asia, Africa and the Middle East Branch, Charge d affaires of the Solomon Islands High Commission in Malaysia, and the Deputy Secretary (Supervising) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade from 2007 until 14th of May 2014.

Ambassador Kalu and his family arrived in Jakarta on the 20th of July 2014.
