A new director has been recruited to lead the Governance Program within the Solomon Islands Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

He is Calvin Ziru, former CEO of the Chamber of Commerce.

The Director of Governance is responsible for the implementation of the NCRA Government’s governance program which includes the preparation and passage of the Political Party Integrity Bill, the Leadership Code Bill as well as other priorities related to Anti-Corruption.

The director’s role is to coordinate with technical directors in the project to implement the good governance priorities and objectives of the government.

Mr Ziru successfully took up the post after returning to the country recently from completing a Masters of Arts in Political Theory and International Relations from the Durham University in England.

Mr Ziru also worked previously as a legal officer at the Office of the Speaker and Clerk of the National Parliament providing legal and secretarial support to various standing committees in parliament for 3 years.

Mr Ziru said he is keen to work in government as part of his contribution to the country as a Solomon Islander.

“I became convinced of the importance of my returning to the Solomon Islands and offering my own services as a young professional within the government”.

“I thought it is very strategic not only in terms of the office but also in terms of its capacity to allow me to begin to activate what I understood only at the academic level and it was incumbent on me to first and foremost understand it by being part of it and to see how the institutions of government operate,” Mr Ziru said.

Mr Ziru said his immediate objective is to understand the dynamics that are involved in his work to push forward and achieve the outputs that are expected of him.
