Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force at Henderson Police station have arrested and charged a 37-year-old male person for the alleged murder of another male person in his 50s at Keuna Village in the Marumbo area of West Guadalcanal on 14 June 2020.

It is alleged that the suspect and the deceased were both drunk and had an argument prior to the incident. The suspect got hold of a piece of timber with both of his hands and struck the victim twice.

The first strike allegedly landed on the back of the victim’s head, and as the victim fell to the ground, the suspect then gave the second strike which landed on the left side of his head including the victim’s left shoulder. The victim fell unconscious on the ground with blood coming out from his mouth and nose.

The deceased was transported to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) for medical treatment. Since the time of incident until his death, the deceased remained in a critical condition for eight days until he died on 22 June 2020 at NRH.

Acting Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “The matter was reported at Henderson Police station and the suspect was arrested on 22 June and placed in police custody.”

“The suspect has been charged with murder contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code and remanded at the Rove Correctional Centre to appear in court at a later date.”

“I would like to remind our good people that taking someone’s life is the worst ever thing one can do. We all face problems in our lives but it does not mean that we should take the law in to our own hands and take someone’s life.

"If we have some issues with another person we should seek help from our community and church leaders or any counselling group to solve it instead of taking it in your own hands,” Acting Commissioner Mangau emphasises.
